Today's Task: Have each family member think of one thing that shows God's mercy to them and share it with the family.
"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His mercy endures forever." Psalm 118
This week our Church had a beautiful Mercy Sunday celebration Mass. It was so moving. It reminded me how many ways God reveals His mercy to us, not just in the forgiveness of sins, but in so many ways.
I have 4 adult children and, contrary to my misguided beliefs, parenting them is more difficult in many ways than I expected. One lives in another state and is not a very demonstrative or communicative child. One is serving our country in Afghanistan. One is graduating with a degree in Visual Communications and is living home and one is graduating high school and living at home. Then there are four more coming up behind them.
I never anticipated the fears of not knowing if your adult children are okay. I worry when they are out late, or I haven't heard from the oldest two. It's hard not to. God grants His infinite mercy to me on the days when I can go to sleep knowing that the six kids who live home are all in their beds and I have heard that day from the two oldest boys. I have learned to take a moment and thank the Lord for that Mercy. Sleep, without worry...what a gift knowing that all my darling children are (for the moment) acoounted for. God is great!! All the time.
